Strawberry Tea Event Raises Money for Bonnyville Hospital Equipment

It was an afternoon of fine china tea and delicious cakes, all to raise money for a good cause.

The Bonnyville Health Center Ladies Auxiliary held their annual Strawberry Tea event last Wednesday at the Bonnyville Seniors Drop-in Center.

About 150 people came out that afternoon to be served tea in fine china cups with strawberry and whipped cream cake and angel food cake. All for a $7 admission that will go to the Bonnyville Health Center.

“We are doing great things for the hospital,” organizer Polly Kopala said.

“WWe buy equipment with our fundraiser and we have a bit of a scholarship fund.

This is an annual initiative that the Ladies Auxiliary coordinates in May, usually at the hospital, but due to ongoing pandemic restrictions in health care facilities, it has moved to the center of home for the elderly.

The last time they were able to hold the event was in 2019.

“We were very happy with the setup where we had it because there is a lot of room and the kitchen is big and it went well. We had a very good turnout,” said Kopala.

“People seemed very happy to see each other and it was just a nice afternoon.”

The Bonnyville Health Center Ladies Auxiliary operates the hospital’s gift shop, while providing two annual scholarships to Bonnyville-area students who are generally enrolled and participating in a health-related program and have completed at least one year .

Kopala thanked the many sponsors, donors and volunteers who helped make the event a reality once again.

“It was really nice to see ladies smiling and chatting. It was just a hive of visits.
